Malware in fake ads for AnyDesk
What’s the threat?
Hackers have infiltrated Google’s search results to show fake adverts for the remote-access software AnyDesk. Clicking the advert takes you to a page where downloading the program installs malware called Lobshot that criminals can use to remotely access your PC without you realising.
The fake ads are the latest of many that have beaten Google’s security defences. It has removed millions of such adverts in recent years, but hackers still manage to place fake ads for programs including 1Password, 7-Zip, Audacity, Bitwarden, CCleaner, LibreOffice, Notepad++, OBS, Rufus, VirtualBox and VLC media player.
