The .454 Casull is one big cartridge. Pitted against the likes of the popular .44 Magnum using a common 240-grain jacketed bullet, the .454 Casull doubles everything the .44 can do, and does most things better.
Citing an example, at a near-maximum loading at 1,400 fps, the .44 Magnum will use 24.8 grains of Hodgdon H110 powder with 1,044 foot-pounds of energy (fpe) at the muzzle and still retain 726 fpe at 100 yards with a 4.6-inch drop when sighted in at 50 yards. Now take the .454 Casull. At 1,800 fps, it will use 36.9 grains of H110 for 1,726 fpe at the muzzle, retaining 1,163 at 100 yards with a 2.5-inch drop when sighted in at 50 yards.
