Shirley Manson, it seems, has some issues to work through. “Too busy hating on myself,” she spits on the tense, deceptively honeyed Uncomfortably Me as she runs through her insecurities, “A waste of time/A waste of space”. She has other targets for her fury, too, many of them male, and it’s hard to argue with her. As she points out at the album’s start, “The men who rule the world/Have made a fucking mess,” and despite the jangling Nile Rodgers guitars offered as an early sweetener, she’s absolutely raging by the song’s chorus, exploding amid its industrial fury.
