We’re all starting to tire as we trudge up Beda Fell. There’s plenty to see and enjoy in this county of rolling green hills, terracotta red earth, coastal scenery and the rugged interior of dramatic Dartmoor. On previous visits to the southwest, we’d followed most of the St Michael line, which crosses England from St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall to Hopton-on-Sea in Norfolk. It’s a well-travelled pilgrim route, tracked by dowsers, Paul Broadhurst and Hamish Miller, in the 1980s. They describe in their book, The Sun and the Serpent, how they discovered a strong Michael energy line intertwined with a softer, more sinuous Mary line. Both weave across the country close to the pilgrim route. It was a bright, sunny day when we set off for a week in the Cotswolds. We arrived at Rough Grounds Farm Caravan Park in Lechlade and set up the ’van. The sun blazed down on the campsite while we ate our lunch, preparing us for the hot week ahead! Lechlade-on-Thames is in the heart of the Cotswold Water Park. It’s a beautiful area awash with lakes, riverside trails, and nature reserves. Many of the lakes were created after quarry mining activities ceased in the area. One of the quarries-turned-nature reserve, Cleveland Lakes, is featured in The Boys in the Boat, an upcoming George Clooney movie filmed there in 2022.
