The City of Cape Town has confirmed it is investigating claims that one of its LEAP officers was involved in an accident which left a three-year-old boy dead in Elsies River. In a statement by People’s Movement for Change, it claims the child was run over by a City LEAP officer, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. The officer is also accused of threatening a family member with a firearm, intensifying their trauma. In response to a query by the Cape Argus on whether the officer was being investigated and suspended, Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason said: “The City is investigating the incident. A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his 19-year-old mentally challenged daughter. The man pleaded guilty in the Sterkspruit Regional Court in the Eastern Cape this week. The rape took place on August 18, 2024, at Joveleni Village in Herschel.
