THE Western Cape government is keeping tabs on ongoing taxi killings after a minibus owner was murdered and two others wounded in Lwandle near Somerset West on Monday. Mzukisi Zuuakala, 44, was shot dead and found inside his Toyota Quantum with multiple wounds to the head and body. The shooting comes shortly after the reopening of taxi routes between Khayelitsha, Mfuleni and Somerset West after a month-long shutdown due to violent clashes between rival associations Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata) and Codeta (Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association). AFTER six mountain rescues across the province this past weekend, CapeNature has called on South Africans to be ambassadors for safety and help international visitors stay informed as the summer hiking season begins. Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) spokesperson David Nel said rescue teams were dispatched to help with incidents that took place on Table Mountain, Stellenbosch and Lion’s Head between Friday and Sunday night. South African trafficking victims in Myanmar have sent urgent messages to the human rights organisation Brave to Love, reporting that they have been gun-pointed, arrested, and forced to pay a ransom. Hamas handed over the remains of a deceased hostage this week as the Palestinian group came under increasing pressure to return its remaining deceased captives as promised under the Gaza ceasefire. While parolee, Clinton “Duiwel” Moses made his second appearance at the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court, for the murder of his girlfriend, Hermalise Wenn, the mother of their three-year-old child, her family had the difficult task of identifying her body at the mortuary. Wenn, a mother of two from Salberau in Elsies River, was allegedly beaten and stabbed to death by Moses, 35, on October 19, despite having a protection order against him. The family of Wenn described Moses as jealous, abusive and controlling.
