We are looking to place your story in our magazine to help those that are impacted by this difficult tragedy. A Bully is not only a person who habitually seeks to harm or intimidate those whom they perceive as vulnerable. We introduce Bully as any horrible encounter with life, which has caused resentment. Devin Moore is 16 years old with plans to make impactful changes in this world. He is a sophomore at Long Island Lutheran, Middle High School in New York City. Devin was inspired to create the #RaceToSpeakUp organization after being racially cyberbullied in middle school. Three of his former middle school classmates took his face and photoshopped it with a gun to his head, on top of a gorilla suit, with it going into the trash. They also showed him hateful images of KKK members, a noose, and a meme saying, “Black People Aren’t Functioning Members of Society.” Devins’ drive comes from the fact that he knows a person shouldn’t be humiliated and tormented because of their skin color. My mom raised my brother and me in a single-family home along with my grandmother, great grandmother, and my granddad. My mom tried her best to remain consistent with making ends meet, but it was a struggle at times. She never allowed us to acknowledge any negativity that would make it complicated for my brother and me to live happily. Mom always shared love and positivity in the home, which made us comfortable. I met my dad at nineteen years old; therefore, our relationship was obsolete. On many occasions, I had to witness my grandfather use physical abuse against my Grandma. My mother, Dorothy, and Father Calvin Goudeau raised my siblings and me in Houston, Texas. I am the baby of the family! I have one brother and two sisters, and one of my sisters is now deceased. My father is from LeBeau, and my Mother is from Lafayette. Houston, Texas, was known as the French Town back in the seventies, but today it is called the 5th Ward, then we moved from the Ward to the suburbs when I was four. My past has put me in a dark place for an exceedingly long time. I was so ashamed to talk to anyone because I didn’t trust their reaction, therefore I never released my emotions of pain. The memories of the physical abuse that my mother encountered from my father, tormented my ability to focus. I continuously daydreamed I would lose my mom due to the physical altercations that consistently occurred during the week. I am grateful to be an OVERCOMER from an abusive marriage. For years, I endured Bullying through verbal, physical, and emotional abuse. One day, I said to myself, “I know God has a better life planned for me than this.” I also knew that I did not want my daughter to grow up thinking it was ok for a man to be abusive towards her. It was in 2015 when I decided to pack myself and my daughter things up and leave. To this day, I have never looked back. Zoey was six months at the time, and yes, it was challenging but worth it. My experience of being in a crisis, ironically, is where we currently are now in the United States of America and around the world. Dealing with systemic racism, continual police brutality, COVID-19, and the loss of loved ones has turned out to be the most challenging time of my life, but through it all, I have found ways to be creative, and experience moments of Joy, Love, Peace, and Grace. I have held on to one of the biggest secrets and never allowed anyone to capture what my past life experiences were. In 2002, I graduated from Norfolk State University in Virginia. Back then, things were going so well for me. Two years later, I decided to take a road trip with my boyfriend, and I witnessed he had forms of drug substance in the vehicle we were traveling in. We were pulled over in Yorktown County, and I was charged with possession of drugs. Since he never admitted to owning them and refused to plead the fifth, I was taken to jail and served seventy days in VPRJ Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. I am the oldest sibling of five children on my mother’s side of the family. It is seven children on my father’s side, in which I am the oldest of them as well.
