Whether King Arthur ever roamed these parts, or existed at all, is a matter for conjecture, but the site has historic remains dating back to the Upper Paleolithic period, so there’s certainly plenty of history. The birding is gentle but varied, and the scenery beautiful.
WHERE TO WATCH
1 From the parking area, follow the path through the trees, looking for Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, mixed tits, plus Dunnock, Blackbird and Robin.
2 In the woodland here, Marsh Tit is still found, and summer should see warblers such as Blackcap, Chiffchaff, and maybe Garden and Willow Warbler. Sparrowhawks hunt here, and Goshawks are also a possibility, breeding as they do not too far away
