Cute, bold and colourful, it’s impossible not to notice. The newest addition to the Opel family is the Adam, a self-assured, muscular little city car with a distinctly anti-retro design that goes against the trend set by its main rivals the Mini, Fiat 500 and – in certain aspects – the Citroën DS3.
“It had to be a strong, modern and immediately recognisable design that also expressed an Opel family feeling” explained Sonja Vandenberk, GM Europe assistant chief designer, colour and trim, at the Paris motor show.
Measuring 3.70 metres in length and based on a modified version of the Corsa platform, it is compact and well-proportioned. “We wanted to downsize without downgrading”, says chief interior designer Stefan Arndt about the project.
