Intel has formally confirmed that it is a key partner in Elon Musk’s Terafab initiative, a large-scale semiconductor manufacturing project tied to Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. The collaboration aims to reach an ambitious production target of one terawatt of annual compute capacity, focused on supporting autonomous vehicles, robotics, artificial intelligence systems, and space-based applications.
The facility is planned for the North Campus of Giga Texas in Austin, positioning it as a centerpiece of next-generation AI and automotive silicon production within the United States.
A SHIFT FROM VERTICAL INTEGRATION TO STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
When Musk unveiled Terafab last month, he described it as a vertically integrated chip manufacturing facility designed to serve Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. The original framing suggested tight in-house control over silicon design and fabrication.
