ten years, cheers!

When you launched MAXIM Australia 10 years ago, did you ever expect you’d still be working on it 10 years later? Hell, no! If you asked me in 2011 if we’d still be around in 10 years, after launching our inaugural issue with Jennifer Hawkins on the cover, I would’ve told you that you were dreamin’. When we first announced we were entering the men’s lifestyle market, MAXIM Australia had so many non-believers — especially the so-called “media experts” who predicted we’d fold after three issues. Yet, here we are 121 editions later. Special shout out to Australia’s “leading” media analyst Steve Allen. What’s your favourite cover to date? As the wankers say, this is like “choosing your favourite child”. There’s been some awesome covers over the years – Ruby Rose posing in…

maxim australia 10th birthday

Sophie Monk MAXIM COVER GIRL: February 2012 November 2018 “My 2018 MAXIM HOT 100 cover forced me to shave my legs and it was one of my favourite shoots ever. I felt so comfortable shooting at my house and it’s always fun playing dress ups. I would almost say I am ready to hang up the bikini, but let’s get real – if you paid me enough I would do a John Farnham and keep coming back. Kidding… kind of.” Delta Goodrem MAXIM COVER GIRL: December 2015 November 2020 Landing the No.1 spot on the 2020 MAXIM HOT 100 was a wonderful honour to receive. I am grateful to be listed alongside so many other terrific individuals, who are beautiful inside and out, and I feel incredibly thankful to the MAXIM readers. I actually held…

where to find the world’s sexiest superyachts

There has always been an element of escapism when it comes to ultra-luxury travel. And it has never been more important than in the midst of the global pandemic. A voyage by superyacht, be it privately owned or by charter, is the ultimate escape. Explorer yachts with their increased range also allow for disappearing into untold hedonism, for months at a time, to the most remote destinations on Earth — perhaps to return to a better world. Even prior to the current situation, there proved an uptick in demand for long-range yachts of unparalleled design and comfort. As an alternative to ownership, superyacht and explorer yacht charters allow for completely bespoke experiences, catering to every possible whim. Small wonder the affluent increasingly resort to life aboard their own private lido…

on to the future

“Our design approach is governed by a playful interaction between beauty and function, intuition and intelligence, proportion and performance,” says Robin de Vries, a senior designer at Dutch studio Vripack which produced the 216-ft Futura yacht concept. “Because of our holistic experience and approach, we know exactly how to achieve the perfect balance.” Counter-intuitively, he doesn’t prefer to begin with a blank slate. “Carte blanche isn’t actually fun at all,” he explains. “When a client gives me a design brief which asks for a mansion to be incorporated in a single story studio is where my creativity starts to spark.” Futura is a floating mansion to be sure; standout features include a dining table large enough to seat 20, a DJ booth surveying the upper deck observation area, a helipad, a…

bumble’s big boss

On February 11, from the Bumble offices in Austin, Texas, Whitney Wolfe Herd virtually rang the bell to open the Nasdaq exchange in New York. Wearing a brilliant yellow power suit and holding her son in her arms, the young mother celebrated as yellow confetti and balloons showered down around her and her team. The entrepreneur’s company, Bumble, had just begun publicly trading, instantly making the 31-year old the youngest woman to ever bring a company public as well as the youngest selfmade female billionaire on the planet. The image of a strong, confident, female billionaire at such a significant moment was a striking sight for a financial world that has always been male dominated. But it also served as a metaphor for Wolfe Herd’s professional and personal journey. She has…

the krasinski method

Jim Halpert from The Office (2005-2013) Krasinski’s Jim Halpert is a salesman at the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of the fictional paper company Dunder Mifflin. He whiles away the hours by winding up his boss Michael Scott (Steve Carell), pranking workmate Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) and pining for secretary Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer). It’s all about the side-glances, the longing gazes at Pam and the moments he talks to the camera. Comedy gold. Jack Silva in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016) Krasinski signed up for a slice of Bayhem and a ticket to blockbuster land with this explosive actioner directed by the inimitable master of the over-the-top set-piece, Mr. Michael Bay. Krasinski, revealing that he has been spending considerable time pumping iron, plays a member of an elite security team defending…
