With summer nearly upon us, what better theme to have for this issue than colour, whether you are painting with it, or on it? From vibrant summer greens and subtle watercolour effects, to colour-mixing ideas from a limited palette and working on toned paper, this month’s tutors have it covered. EVENTS Techniques of the Old Masters The Wallace Collection will be running an online Zoom webinar on the Techniques of the Old Masters, on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 July, 2 to 4pm. Guildford Arts summer exhibition Guildford Arts summer exhibition returns with an exuberant and colourful display of work by over 20 local and national artists. The exhibition, which takes place at The Mill Studio, Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford, features ceramics, wood, prints, glass, paper and photography as well as paintings and drawings. For most of my adult life I have explored places in the Middle East where ancient sites abound. Often these sites still have ancient stone columns, pediments, decorated capitals, carved lintels, and all manner of broken but delightfully crafted bits of stonework, all lying around in scattered abundance that in a western country would probably be put away and preserved well out of sight for eternity.
