Nicolas Ghesquière’s locations for his Louis Vuitton cruise shows have spanned the globe, from the TWA Flight Center at New York’s JFK airport to the MAC in Rio de Janeiro and the Miho Museum in Japan. For the brand’s Cruise 2023 show the fashion set descended upon the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego, an imposing, Brutalist building designed by Louis Kahn in the early 1960s. Though Ghesquière’s designs are often seen alongside some of the world’s most iconic architectural locales, the maison took things a step further for Cruise 2023, timing the show to take place during a blazing sunset, which cast golden rays on the building’s central courtyard and brought the collection’s jacquard, silk, and tweed fabrics to vibrant life.
