In September 2022, Historic England asked people to post photos of their local high streets on Instagram with the hashtag #PicturingHighStreets.
Historic England is an organisation that advises the Government on how to look after traditional buildings and places. It has chosen 60 of the best photos from the public for an outdoor exhibition about everyday life called Picturing High Streets. The pictures range from portraits of people to photos of cafés and shop fronts.
The exhibition is touring England, starting in Derby from 17 March to 9 April, and it will visit Bradford, Bristol, Hastings, London, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Prescot and Stoke-on-Trent. The photos will be shown in different ways, such as in shop windows and on big advertising boards.
