Castleford will receive direct trains to and from York from December 2023’s timetable change, as TransPennine Express starts local services between Huddersfield and Castleford and extends them.
TPE plans an initial service of four trains per day, and says it will add another two from next summer. Running from Huddersfield, the service will call at Deighton, Mirfield, Wakefield Kirkgate, Normanton, Castleford and York.
Current timetables show Castleford served by Northern’s Leeds-Knottingley and Leeds-Sheffield services, with an occasional bus to Huddersfield and a Leeds-Goole train.
TPE already runs via Castleford when engineering work closes the direct line between York and Leeds, while Normanton sits on its diversion between Leeds and Huddersfield.
