On Friday, the SAPS released its crime statistics for the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year (April 2024 to June 2024). Femada Shamam, the chief executive officer of Tafta, said elder abuse remained a “pressing concern” in KwaZulu-Natal. AN UMHLATUZANA mother of two has pleaded guilty to her husband’s murder, which she had plotted with her lover, five months after they started an affair, in 2022. In the Durban High Court last week, Loretta Simone Ramrathan, 30, was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for the murder of her husband, Bradley Singh. Singh, 38, was on his way to take his transport to work on November 21, 2022, when he was stabbed multiple times in his chest and robbed. His shoes, phone and lunch bag were stolen. Prishne Khan, 37, was sentenced in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday to 10 years’ imprisonment on 63 counts of fraud that resulted in losses that exceeded R3 million. Lumka Mahanjana, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng, said Khan also received four years for theft of R350 000. The court ordered that these sentences run concurrently; resulting in an effective sentence of 10 years in prison. Mahanjana said Khan was employed as a bookkeeper at the Northern Cricket Union from June 2015 to January 18, 2017.
