FOR THE 2016 INSTALMENT of the acclaimed event, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum – refreshed and renamed since its last triennial, in 2013 – is devoting two floors to the most innovative and intriguing works of the past three years. Beauty’s celebration of contemporary design encompasses seven themes (extravagant, intricate, ethereal, transgressive, emergent, elemental, transformative), represented by 63 designers and more than 250 pieces drawn from virtually every discipline.
On view are lighting and furniture, fashion and jewellery, and objects ranging from Herman Miller’s Formwork desk accessories to the way-outthere Afreaks.
