World leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, US president Joe Biden and Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau have called for calm after fighting between Israel and Lebanon escalated.

Starmer, speaking at the Labour party conference in Liverpool on 24 September, said, “I call for restraint at the border between Lebanon and Israel.” US president Joe Biden said, “a war is in no one’s interest,” adding that a peaceful solution was possible. Trudeau said, “we need to protect lives.
