The Orders, Decorations, Medals and Militaria auction highlight at Noonans was a Great War Western Front Victoria Cross awarded to Sergeant Arnold Loosemore for his gallantry during the second Anglo-French general attack of the Third Battle of Ypres, that took place south of Langemarck in Belgium on 11 August 1917. It was sold for a hammer price of £220,000.
Our main feature this month is the Battle of the Alma, and here we have a Crimea 1854-56 medal with four clasps, for ‘Alma’, ‘Balaklava’, ‘Inkermann’, ‘Sebastopol’ (3943 J. Winter, Coldstream Guards); a France, Second Empire, Medaille Militaire, silver, silver-gilt and enamel, with eagle suspension; and a Turkish Crimea medal, Sardinian issue, unnamed. It hammered for £1,200 (plus BP of 28.8%).
