GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE GENDER-based violence (GBV) refers to any crime or action directed at a person or group of persons on the basis of their perceived or actual gender or sexual orientation. This includes domestic violence, dating violence, sexual harassment, assault, verbal and physical abuse, and stalking. All these types of violence can be – and almost always are – gendered in nature, because of how gender power inequalities are entrenched in our society.
