BIKE Web Company, later called BIKE Athletic Company, manufactured and patented the first “BIKE jockey strap” to help support cyclists who were biking over Boston’s cobblestone streets.

Sears sells the Heidelberg Electric Belt, a jockstrap-esque device that sends electric currents throughout the body and claims to cure a wide range of illnesses, including impotency.
1927
Like peanut butter and jelly, the jockstrap’s most iconic pairing is with the hard protector cup, which was added by Canadian hockey, rugby, and football player Jack Cartledge. The new jockstrap, sold by his father’s company, Guelph Elastic Hosiery, was called the Protex jockstrap. They were widely used in Canada’s favorite sport, hockey; the city of Guelph, Ontario, became known as the “jockstrap capital of the world.”
