Tell us about your creative background. Are you a sewist? I was a very creative kid. I was always painting or drawing and could entertain myself for hours with nothing but a pen and paper. Throughout my life, the creative calling was always strong and I’m so pleased that it has continued into my adult life, and into my livelihood. I learned how to sew growing up – my mum sewed a lot and there was always a sewing machine, a basket of notions, piles of fabric and sewing patterns for some really cool 1970s mod-inspired apparel around. I still love to sew but I think my talent lies in designing the fabrics themselves. I get so much joy out of seeing what other people sew with them. Can you…

We’ve covered complementary colour schemes – now let’s turn things up a notch and talk split complementary. As you may know, a complementary colour scheme is created with two colours directly across from one another on the colour wheel. Continuing in the same vein, a split complementary colour scheme is created when you combine a base colour with the two colours adjacent to the base’s complement. To visualise, a split complementary palette with red as the base colour would also include yellow-green and green-blue (as green is the complement to red). Unlike other colour schemes, there are vast combinations to be made from split complementary shades and, most excitingly, each one is as beautiful as the last!
