It's only taken me a year, but I've finally cracked one of my long-term quilting goals – I am a Foundation Paper Piecing convert! Lots of our contributors have suggested that it would appeal to the perfectionist in me, and they were (of course) absolutely right. I'm sewing with an accuracy that I could never achieve without those little paper templates, and I love it! There were quite a few un-picked seams along the way, but I still feel giddy with the success of mastering a new technique. What next? I’m a fussy cutter, and one of the by-products of being a fussy cutter is fabric scraps. Fussy cutters’ scraps are not like normal fabric scraps, they’re more like fabric Swiss cheese. I can take a half yard of fabric and make it look like a mouse has gone to town on the fabric. It’s brilliant fun. The downside of cutting into my fabric with such abandon is that I have to have a scrap storage system that works so I can find things once I’ve had my fun with motifs. I strongly believe that when it comes to fussy cutting you can use every bit of the fabric, there’s just a priority of use. They say that the winter holidays are the most wonderful time of the year… but you know what I say? They’re waaay to cold!
