THE EARLY DAYS Johnathan ‘JT’ Thurston is a NRL legend, but at the start, multiple clubs passed on signing him because they thought he was small and skinny! PREHISTORIC NEWS We think of crocodiles as carnivores, but now scientists from University of Utah, USA, have discovered some ancient croc relatives were herbivores! Scientists Keegan Melstrom and Randall Irmis created 3D scans and casts of teeth samples, to study 146 fossil teeth from 16 species of ‘crocodyliforms’ (a group from which modern reptiles are descended). Their research showed the tooth shape was linked to diet. The more complex the tooth, the more likely that reptile ate plants – because eating plants takes more work. K-Z: Hi Mark! Why did you want to be a professional racing driver? M: I won my own PeeWee 50cc motorcycle in a local raffle, and that gave me a taste of motorsport. Put in the hard yards and stay committed. Football is a rollercoaster ride. There are hard times, mentally and physically, but that’s what makes the good moments worthwhile and rewarding. Most importantly, don’t forget to have fun! If you want to be a better forward, practise different shots, and scoring goals in the corners with a lot of reps in front of goal. I’ve found it has helped my confidence and helped me be more relaxed in front of the goal in games. Remember, there’s always more to learn!
