Doctors discovered people with neurological disorders and limited consciousness “woke up” after being treated with the sleep aid zolpidem tartrate sold under the brand name Ambien. “We saw a dramatic effect in a small amount of patients with a variety of conditions,” says Dr. Martin Bomalaski of University of Michigan, who did a systematic review of case studies showing the drug’s unusual effect. Hard-boiled researchers at the University of South Australia say they observed a link between consuming eggs and elevated blood sugar levels after analyzing health data from 8,545 Chinese adults. They found individuals who ate more than 38 grams of egg per day had about a 25 percent increased risk of diabetes, whereas those who consumed 50 grams — the equivalent to one egg — or more had a whopping 60 percent elevated risk.
