When given an additional six grams of salt every day beyond the recommended amount, scientists at the University of Bonn found subjects showed signs of pronounced immune deficiencies. The study proves “excessive salt intake … significantly weakens an important arm of the immune system,” says co-author Dr. Christian Kurts. The six grams examined in the report are about the same amount of salt found in two average fast-food meals — or two hamburgers and two orders of french fries.
