No matter how well made a barrel is, if it’s not fit properly, that money is wasted. If the barrel is in a bind, keeping the slide from going forward smoothly, or if the rear of the chamber overhangs the feed ramp, the gun will never function properly, and if the lower lugs are over-fit, leaving the bottom of the barrel without support, the benefit of that gorgeous, mirror-smooth rifling will be completely lost. As with many features on custom handguns, while the quality of parts matters, it’s often the fitting that really determines how good the results are.
Generally, for proper functioning even with a match barrel, the pistol’s slide should cycle smoothly, without any hesitancy going into battery and without an audible snap as the pistol locks up.…
