CITIZENS of eThekwini used Human Rights Day (March 21) to highlight the denial of services to them. The Verulam Water Crisis Committee, Phoenix Civic and Ratepayer Association, Tongaat Civic Association, and La Mercy Concerned Citizens, together with affected residents, embarked on an awareness campaign at the Durban City Hall about their struggle for water.
Roshan Lil-Ruthan, spokesperson for the Verulam Water Crisis Committee, said one of the key elements highlighted was the failure of municipal authorities to provide access to clean and safe water in thousands of homes, for some, for over 230 days.
“The residents from Verulam, Tongaat, La Mercy, Phoenix, and other areas in eThekwini stood united in solidarity, demonstrating their determination to continue fighting for their rights.”
