WITHIN days, residents in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) could be without water, thanks to a crippling drought that has seen dams dry up.
About 40% of residents living in Athlone Park, PE Central, Summerstrand, Fairview, the Marock Road informal settlement, Millpark and Malabar, among other areas, are expected to be without water by the end of the month.
This comes after the Impofu Dam was decommissioned because it dried up two weeks ago. Water levels at other nearby dams are also low.
The Churchill Dam is at 8% and expected to run dry by Friday. The combined water levels of the Loerie, Kouga, and Groendal dams, which supply areas in Gqeberha, Kariega, Despatch, and Colchester, are just over 11%.
