The department obtained an interim interdict against CHWs after clinics and health facilities were shut down. The CHWs are demanding that they be permanently absorbed by the department. They claim that they were forced to sign 12-month contracts by November 5 or face having their employment terminated. Care workers were prevented from claiming social grants after the SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) suspended public servants’ grants. The CHWs said that they had to re-register with Sassa to resume payment of their social and child grants. He added that returning to the ANC or joining another political party was also not an option. The ANC won Ward 16 with 61.88 percent of the vote, followed by the EFF with 18 percent. Stout won the third highest number of votes at 8.98 percent. The Sol Plaatje Service Delivery Forum secured 1.8 percent support, while Good managed to secure 3.58 percent of the vote. Papier is unable to state where she is from or who her family members are. Police spokesperson Captain Bashoabile Kale said Papier is currently at the Roodepan Community Service Centre charge office for her own safety. The 2021 NSC exams began on Wednesday, October 27 and will conclude on Tuesday, December 7. The Northern Cape Department of Education has registered a total of 16 551 candidates, of which 13 056 are full-time candidates and 3 495 are part-time candidates. STAFF Reporter Former president FW de Klerk died peacefully at his home in Fresnaye yesterday morning, the FW de Klerk Foundation said. “It is with the deepest sadness that the FW de Klerk Foundation must announce that former President FW de Klerk died peacefully at his home in Fresnaye, Cape Town, earlier this morning, following his battle with mesothelioma cancer,” the foundation said in a statement. “Mr De Klerk was 85 years old. He is survived by his wife Elita, his children Jan and Susan, and his grandchildren.” The foundation said that the family would make an announcement regarding the funeral arrangements in due course.
