‘Man, you are one sexy audience,” angel olsen tells a packed crowd at New York’s Webster Hall. “Use protection tonight.” Wearing a green shift dress, with her backing band clad in matching slategray suits and bolo ties, the 29-year-old singer-guitarist looks like she’s about to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. But her songs (not to mention her stage banter) are full of sharp modern contrasts – psychedelic guitar fury; gritty, confessional indie folk; slow-roil synths – to go with swatches of dreamy Sixties balladry. For two hours, Olsen lords over the crowd like a gutter-mouthed Lesley Gore.
