TWO weeks after taking up his promotional post as a station commander, Captain Danasegran “Naveen” Pather, who served more than three decades in the police service, was killed in the line of duty.
Pather, 56, of Pietermaritzburg, and his colleague, Detective Warrant Officer Moses Dumsani Ndlovu, 56, both stationed at Hammarsdale SAPS, were shot dead while attending a murder scene on Saturday evening, in Cliffdale. Two civilians were also killed.
Ndlovu was the head of detectives at the station.
Close friend, Shaheen Suleiman, CEO of Magma Security, said he responded to the scene when he heard that the police had come under fire.
He said on November 12, two girls had been killed in Claremont and their funerals were taking place in Cliffdale on Saturday.
