I was quite taken aback a few days ago when I came across the new single, I Wear my Roots like a Medal, by Sri Lankan-born singer Dheekshitha Venkadeshan, popularly known as Dhee.
Her maiden song Enjoy Enjaami (Enjoy, My Dear), a four-and-half minute song about the struggle and hopes of a tea plantation worker in Sri Lanka, was an instant hit.
It went viral on YouTube and was watched by 200 million people within a fortnight of its release. It is no mean feat to follow up with a second number that has the promise of also becoming a chart buster.
