Lying back on the cold, clinical bed in the doctor’s office, I opened my legs.
‘It’ll be over in a flash,’ the nurse smiled kindly.

‘You’ll receive the results in a couple of weeks,’ she said.
I knew how important cervical smear tests were, and that’s why I’d always kept up with my regular routine screening appointments.
The letter came through every three years, but a decade ago I’d had an abnormal result, and I’d gone more regularly.
I was called up again in September last year, and I expected a normal result. I’d had no signs or symptoms.
