DEAR READER, Thank you for picking up this last knitscene issue of 2019. It’s been a whirlwind of an editorial and calendar year. We started off the year with the plan to use 2019 knitscene issues to explore the elements through knitwear—in spring we played with air, in summer with fire, and in fall with water. This Winter issue was slated to be all about earth, but the direction shifted a bit, as did our staff at the time of its initial development. A recent weekend trip to Yellowstone National Park allowed me the chance to visit Stix, a wonderful local yarn shop in Bozeman, Montana. Sitting for a chat with co-owner Tracy St. John, I learned that I’m not the only fiber-seeking vacationer who makes a special trip to the LYS. “We are kind of atypical in the yarn industry because summer is one of our busier times of the year,” Tracy said. “We’re super busy because of our proximity to Yellowstone.
