The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) has released its most recent report on activities aimed at protecting marine life around the world. Highlights include cleaning up harbours around Newfoundland, Canada…. removing discarded fishing nets, abandoned crab pots and lobster traps, plastic buoys, rope, plastic bags, PVC pipe, plastic containers, food wrappers, tyres and a range of other nasties. Its rescue teams have also responded to over three hundred dolphin, porpoise, seal and whale rescue calls in six months, almost two per day. IFAW has also been working with government officials around the world to implement legislation to minimise ocean noise pollution, which can adversely affect whale feeding areas, breeding regions and migratory routes, and lead to deadly ship strikes.
