I’m testing the GL145 Causeway hiking poles from Helinox. Helinox is a company built around a very specific technology, namely TH72M alloy. Developed by the South Korean DAC company, TH72M is a very strong, yet very light aluminium and titanium alloy. When tubing becomes very thin, it becomes susceptible to stress cracking. To compensate for this, manufactures user thicker (and heavier) tubes. TH72M allows Helinox to reduce the weight of its products, without reducing the strength.
Helinox offers three groups of poles, a lighter/compact Passport, midrange Ridgeline pole, and the heavy-duty Causeway poles. The Causeway have the largest tube diameter of the three groups, an improved locking mechanism to support heavier loads, and a longer length.
