PREGNANT women who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 are at lower risk of having a Caesarean section or experiencing hypertension, a new study has found. Using data from December 2019 to January 2023, the study, published in the journal BMJ Global Health, evaluated evidence from global studies to determine whether Covid vaccinations were effective for pregnant women, who were at higher risk of illness from the virus. The study found that women who had been fully vaccinated had a 61% drop in the likelihood of getting Covid and 94% reduced odds of hospital admission. Moreover, meta-analysis of 67 studies, which included more than 1.8 million women, suggested that vaccination led to a 9% decline in Caesarean section risk, a 12% reduction in hypertensive disorders in pregnancy and an 8% drop…

LITTLE Kayden Moodley, who was involved in a head-on-collision that claimed the lives of his father and uncle, has been discharged from a hospital ICU and is recovering at home. His father, Theresan Moodley, took his two-seater VW Golf, which he had built from scratch, for a test drive on Father’s Day. Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims. Ebrahim Khan, 27, of Musgrave, suffered a heart attack and died on the first day of the hajj on June 14. FARMERS Peter and Rani Naicker started farming in 1972, when they were teenagers. Peter, 69, who is formerly from Glendale in KwaDukuza, said he started working on his parents’ sugar cane farm when he was 17. “When I was in Standard 8 (Grade 10) I was forced to leave school and help out on the farm.
