PARENTS of the children who died at the Throb nightclub in Chatsworth 22 years ago, are reliving the pain following the death of 21 teenagers at a tavern in the Eastern Cape. There are some similarities between the two incidents – both occurred at a nightclub at the end of a school term; both involved children as young as 12 and 13; and both involved communities with few recreational facilities for children. On March 24, 2000, about 600 children were celebrating the end of the school term at the Throb nightclub in Chatsworth. Pandemonium broke out when a tear-gas canister was detonated. Blend the chilli, soya sauce, ginger and miso paste together. Sear the salmon on medium heat, skin side down first. Turn over and never flip the fish again. Add the white wine to the pan. VICTIMS of child abuse, who are not treated for mental health issues immediately, can turn into abusers one day, according to social workers in Durban. This was in response to the 2021/2022 South African Child Gauge that was recently released by UCT's Children's Institute. It found that 50% of adult mental health disorders are established by age 14. The report highlighted how children and adolescents in South Africa continued to face multiple adversities that erode their mental health. Abuse and neglect were found to be the top two contributors to compromised mental health in children. Professor Shanaaz Mathews, the director of the Children’s Institute, said the environment in which young people lived had an impact on their mental health. THE electricity bills were previously posted to us in Phoenix before the 7th of every month. The bills are now arriving a month late, after we paid the last utility account. Due to this, we have to go to the rent office for a printout of the account. This results in stress and it is an inconvenience. According to the report, Indian South Africans are one of two groups that are over-represented in the workplace in relation to their economically active population (EAP). Whites were the other group. The report was based on statistics from April 2021 to March 2022 and analysed information at six occupational levels.
