S eeing how swollen my 2-year-old daughter’s left knee was in March, I trusted my instincts.
Me and my husband Russell, 37, had been concerned since noticing a visible swelling in Sophie’s left foot a few days earlier. But, despite her terrible pain, doctors had been unable to find the cause.
‘No trace of fractures or soft-tissue damage,’ said the consultant, looking at her X-ray, but I knew something was wrong.
Sophie was constantly exhausted, irritable and unable put weight on her left leg.
‘Sore!’ she’d scream, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Returning to Frimley Park Hospital’s A&E, I asked about autoimmune screening.
‘Rheumatoid arthritis runs in my family,’ I explained.
I’d suffered from it myself since my teens.
