Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) is embarking on an ambitious development programme that includes procuring new equipment and expanding capacity at the Cape Town Container Terminal in a bid to enhance operation efficiency. This was revealed at an engagement between TPT and the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) on Thursday. The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has issued a R2.046 billion maiden sustainability bond, exceeding its R1.5bn target amid strong investor demand, the state-owned funder said this week. The Durban High Court rejected Ferrel Govender’s bail appeal, stating that it did not see fit to interfere with the decision of the Durban Magistrate’s Court, which denied him bail last month. Security company boss Ferrel is accused with his brother, Darren, of the murder of Durban businessman Shailen Singh. According to the State, Ferrel accused Singh of having an affair with his girlfriend. The State alleges that the duo killed Singh in uMhlanga’s Meridian Drive last December. The Department of Transport has roped in the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and the National Treasury to shepherd the newly formed Public Sector Participation (PSP) Unit in preparation for private investment. THE Auditor General of South Africa has taken the Msunduzi Local Municipality to task for wasting millions of rand in taxpayers’ money paying scarce skills allowance to employees that did not qualify to receive the funds. This matter was flagged by the Office of the Auditor General in the latest audit report. Close to half a billion rand in debt owed by deceased estates has been written off by the eThekwini Municipality. The mayor said thousands of people have applied through the deceased estate debt write-off programme and had their debts written off. Last year, the City announced the programme, informing beneficiaries that if there is debt older than 24 months, they may qualify for a debt write-off. The other requirements included that the property value must not exceed R1 million, and the beneficiary must be willing to take over the municipal account to prevent any re-emerging debt.
