Kawasaki might have arrived late to the retro party, but they’ve done it in style with a machine that looks the part and goes like stink.
Based on the Z900, the new RS (Retro Sport) is an unashamed nod to the 1972, 83bhp, 903cc, inline four-cylinder ‘900 Super 4’ Z1. Prices for perfectly restored Z1s are now well north of 20 grand, but the good news is its Z900RS granddaughter is lighter, more powerful, faster, better handling, safer, just as pretty and half the price.
As well as its modified chassis, higher spec monoblocs trump the Z900’s brakes, not to mention the Z1’s solo disc and single pot caliper set-up.
There’s no lack of speed in the Zed’s armoury and with the three-level TC turned off…
