To cut the Equilateral Triangles from your coloured fabric 6in strips, place your template or ruler with the bottom and top flat edges (otherwise known as the base and top) aligned with the long edges of your fabric strip. Cut along both sides of the triangle, then use the template to trim the corners (Fig 1). Turn the template 180-degrees, lining it up with the angled edge at the side, and cut along the right side, as shown in Fig 2. What’s the story behind the name ‘Toad & Sew’? The name Toad & Sew was inspired by the apparel company Toad & Co. I saw their name once and loved it so much because I have a rescue dog named Toad. How did you first get into quilting I was actually in my first year of Fashion Design school and my cousin was pregnant. I wanted to make something for her so I decided, “I’ll make a baby quilt!” Sure, I had sewing experience, I’m self-taught, but I had never made a quilt. Walking foot (sometimes called an even feed foot): This foot feeds the fabric from the top and bottom so it keeps your quilt sandwich securely together. Some sewing machines will be able to handle minimal quilting without one, but a walking foot is a good investment if you want to do anything more than just a few simple straight lines. Thread: It is up to your personal preference whether you want quilting stitches that ‘disappear’ into the quilt or a heavier thread that stands out and is a feature.
