It is a street-driven Pro Mod car,” he says. “There is a difference.” Street car or not, one thing is obvious: The Sorceress is a masterpiece of engineering and innovation. A new kind of event took place in 2005, and it was designed to settle the argument about who has the fastest street car. It is a feud that has raged on for as long as anyone can remember. HOT ROD began searching for a national competition to settle the score, first in 1992 with its Top 10 Fastest Street Car Shootout during the NMCA finals in Memphis, Tennessee, and then with various events afterwards. When you think about the most impactful innovations when it comes to making horsepower in the last 100 years, there are plenty of good options. It was more than 25 years ago that Gearstar founder Zack Farah got his start in the remanufacturing industry, working at Tristar International, his family’s business, where something like 100 transmissions and 300 torque converters were sent out the door every day. Bryant Goldstone’s 1973 AMC Javelin is the 2024 Fastest Street Car in America thanks to a decisive victory at this year’s HOT ROD Drag Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive. It's just the second time in history that an Unlimited didn't capture the Overall title. Goldstone competes in the Ultimate Iron category. It was a week of ups and downs for the newly crowned champ, beginning at National Trail Raceway with a solid 6.523 at 223.88 mph. With Jeremiah Kirby wheeling Lohone’s 1972 Chevelle, the pair rolled through the Pro Street NA (Naturally Aspirated) class, averaging an 8.46 e.t. to win the week.
