A record number of single women are starting families on their own with the help of IVF, it emerged last week. In fact, the number has almost quadrupled in a decade, with some blaming the struggle to find ‘Mr Right’. But those reports (and the suggestion that women are just too picky) obscured a bigger story: record numbers of same-sex couples and those using surrogates are also becoming parents via IVF, which was initially aimed at heterosexual couples.
