In December 2005, Pollycarpus Priyanto was convicted of premeditated murder and forgery, jailed for 14 years. However, the judge said evidence indicated he’d not acted alone, urging police to investigate further. Munir Said Thalib’s widow continued to push for justice. Eventually, evidence emerged that Pryanto had laced Munir’s juice with arsenic while they had a drink together during the stopover at Singapore Changi Airport. It’s also now believed Pryanto was an agent for Indonesia’s state intelligence agency, placed in Garuda Indonesia airline’s corporate-security sector three months prior to Munir’s death. In August 2008, the former head of Indonesia’s intelligence agency Major-General Muchdi Purwoprandjono was charged with premeditated murder.
