ISLAMIC Relief South Africa launched the Incubator of Dreamers initiative recently to help prepare 100 youths to establish their own businesses. Yusuf Mohamed, CEO of Islamic Relief SA, said students would go through 18 months of mentorship, and be assisted to develop business plans. “The whole idea of this project is for the youth to also empower and develop their own communities,” said Mohamed. “We gathered students, aged 18 to 35, by engaging with community-based organisations we have partnerships with in many underprivileged communities. Premilla Deonath, its chairperson, said the aim was to empower the community. “We want to be able to prevent a gridlock whereby vehicles go in one direction. This book was created for whenever there is a need to evacuate as a result of man-made or natural disasters. “Our community, being a semi-industrial area, is regularly exposed to gas leaks and chemicals that affect the respiratory health of a lot of residents. PARAMEDICS have noted an increase in head-on collisions on roads in KwaZulu- Natal. They said this was especially the case in areas of narrow high traffic roadways, mountain passes as well as high-speed zones such as freeways. Recently, a head-on collision left three people in a critical condition in Mount Edgecombe, while in another incident in Phoenix a 4-year-old was seriously injured in a collision involving a SAPS bakkie and a light motor vehicle.
