Steve Fesus was 24 and working as a nightclub bouncer when he met 16-year-old Jodie. By the time they married two years later, in May 1997, they had a son, Dylan, as well as Kimberley, Jodie’s daughter from a previous relationship.
A few months after their wedding, on 12 August, Jodie was apparently asleep at their home in Mount Warrigal, New South Wales, when he took Kimberley, 2, and Dylan, 1, with him to Shellharbour Workers’ Club at 9.30am to drop off some paperwork.
When he got back to the house an hour later, 18-year-old Jodie was gone.
Steve, a part-time security guard, appealed for help finding her. He was anxious, as he said she’d suffered from postnatal depression.
