The Mini Cooper Register has set a date of 12 June for its 2022 National Mini Day at Beaulieu National Motor Museum in Hampshire. An MCR spokesperson said: "Following last year’s slightly stripped-down event, the MCR is hoping that the 2022 event will be free of all pandemic restrictions. However, it is important to note that it is Beaulieu themselves that control ticket sales and their allocation." The theme for the 2022 event is 'Minis in Motorsport'. The register has an Ex-Works and Competition Car Register so Mini fans will be hoping to see some special Minis on display. In 1994, after eliciting the support of Rover, John Brigden (Rover Heritage Editor) and Jeremy Coulter (MiniWorld Sports Editor), under the umbrella of Brigden-Coulter Motorsport (BCM), oversaw the entry of two Mini Coopers into the Rallye Monte Carlo, to celebrate Paddy Hopkirk’s landmark Cooper S victory three decades earlier. Paddy was to return as driver, with Ron Crellin as co-driver, for this well-received commemorative entry into this famous event. The Rover Works-prepared Mini carried the registration L33 EJB and Paddy’s iconic 37 door number. Timo Mäkinen and Paul Easter also competed in a Mini assembled in just 48 hours, after the intended car was stolen en route to the event. The door and boot locks on a Mini are very reliable in service and, throughout the life of the Mini, tend to get very little maintenance apart from maybe a drop of oil occasionally but usually only if there is a problem. Restoring them in most cases is easy and very worthwhile. If they are working correctly then all they really need is a good clean down with some white spirit externally and minimally internally where there is dirt build up. Mk3-onwards locks are oft en deteriorated and scratched in appearance but there are a few ways of dealing with this. Once they have been cleaned and dried, if the surface of the metal exterior is not corroded, they can be polished lightly with Autosol or similar. The main problem…

A recent survey on behalf of Carvine revealed that 7 out of 10 motorists (69% of its 3,500 respondents) were afraid to drive in snowy conditions. The other 31% claimed that they were happy to drive in snowy conditions. Minis can be very good at tackling snow, as proved by its Monte Carlo Rally prowess. Carvine suggests that vehicles should be checked over before travel in snowy conditions. Points to consider include tyre pressures, brakes, anti-freeze levels, lights and check windscreens for cracks. If you are in rural areas it makes sense to get your car serviced, invest in snow chains or socks and pack a winter survival kit which should include a map, jump leads, snacks, water, torch, tow-rope, warm clothes, hi-vis jacket and a phone charger.…

ISSUE: August 2011 Looking back at feature cars from MiniWorld's archives I From the age of 10 Sonny-Lee Perry wanted a Mini Pick-up so he started saving for one when he was 15. After a lot of searching he eventually bought one of the last Pick-ups built, which was registered in 1984, in 2007 for £2,250. It was in surprisingly good condition and only required new door skins and a bonnet. Sonny-Lee’s plan was to build his dream modified Mini Pick-up. It was painted in MG Trophy Blue by Pristine Paintwork. It was fitted with Wood & Pickett arches and sat on 6x10” MB Racing alloys. Disc brakes were fitted at the front and Superfins at the rear. He has owned more than 20 Minis and built two from scratch. 1275 rebuild to 1380cc I have a Mini that was fitted with a 1275 engine 20 years ago. The engine now needs a rebuild and I am wondering what engine capacity would be best to go for when I have it rebored? Is it worth increasing to 1330cc or perhaps 1380cc?
