MacOS 10.14 Mojave, the version of the Mac operating system before Catalina, is the last one to support 32-bit software. With Catalina, only 64-bit software will be supported. Now that it’s here, you need to do a bit more than usual to prepare your Mac. You need to make sure your apps are 64-bit versions. If a program is a 32-bit version, it will not work. Apple actually started to warn people about the change with macOS 10.13 High Sierra. If you launch a 32-bit app in this OS, an alert pops up to tell you that it needs to be updated. Since the very first Apple-designed smartphone chip (the A4 back in 2010), the company has been a force to be reckoned with in mobile silicon design. It was with the A6 a couple years later, when Apple used its own CPU design instead of a licensed architecture, that its performance leadership really started to kick into high gear.
